The Multicultural Council supports the activities and the growth of the Museum of Riverside and the Riverside Museum Associates by creating and presenting educational events and programs which foster and celebrate all cultures. The Multicultural Council fosters the belief that people of all generations and diverse racial and ethnic heritage can gain mutual understanding and appreciation of past, present, and future cultural traditions and achievements.

Celebrate traditions

The Multicultural Council was formed to celebrate the Riverside story through the cultural heritages in the region. In 1997 the MCC began its signature event, The Family Village Festival, a popular Museum event that draws families and individuals who enjoy the music, art, dance, crafts, and story telling in a street setting.

The MCC has also offered book and film clubs featuring a wide range of cultural settings, a dialogue of culture–“Who is the keeper of your culture?”– as well as the more recent celebration of California’s official Day of Inclusion, created to celebrate the immigrant groups that make up our beautiful state. They also participate in the the community celebration of Dia de los Muertos and the Juneteenth celebration. They encourage young people to get in touch with their heritages and to find their voice in appreciating those heritages and to learn from their cultural experiences. The MCC collaborates with other Riverside groups such as the African American Historical Society, the Japanese American Citizens League, the Save Our Chinatown Committee, the Chinese Historical Society, and artists throughout the region.
